My name is Kevin Rilett and I have been nominated as a Councillor in the upcoming Onkaparinga Council Elections for the ward of Pimpala.
From 14th October 2022 everyone eligible to vote in these elections will receive a Postal Ballot in the mail.
It will then be necessary for you to fill in your Ballot and post it off so it’s received no later than 10th November. Please allow at least 3 days for postage.
Woodcroft has been my home for 32 years where my wife, Jana, and I have raised four children.
We’ve been involved in local school and club sports including volunteer committee roles. I love living in this area with, Onkaparinga River, Moana, Pt Noarlunga Estuary and much more on our doorstep.
I first enjoyed being a home Dad, working at local markets on weekends and prior to this I worked in the RAAF around Australia and overseas.
My current employment involves defence aviation maintenance and safety.
I believe in the importance of access to sport and arts for people of all ages.
In my role as Councillor, I would reduce Council Rates and foster initiatives supporting nature and outdoor facilities. Council’s role is to provide value and reassurance to the community that someone is looking out for their best interests – now and into the future.
We need accurate facts and figures on Council expenditure, debt, assets & Council businesses that compete with local companies.
Council should not use our rates to pay for compliance with new standards imposed on us without consent of the people. Much of these compliance issues have been imposed on us by the State Government so I feel they should pay for them.
There is so much that has happened in Council without the informed consent of rate payers.
Rising land & house prices will lead to higher rates charged to owners so we need a completely new way to ‘rate’ properties. Even planning rate increases based on C.P.I. when wages are not going up should be questioned.
Questionable conditions continue in some Aged Care facilities despite the 2018 Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
Council must have the facts about actual conditions in aged care homes in Onkaparinga and be prepared to communicate with the relevant SA minister.
I also wonder about the real situation with homelessness and charities.
I have teamed up with 11 other candidates in this election who believe like I do. We are all ordinary rate payers who love their community and if we are all elected we will have every opportunity to see these changes happen.
